Forget that artificial carton-flavored, store-bought swill
disguised as a holiday beverage. If you can spend days
tracking down a useless gift for Aunt Matilda, whom
you’ve seen twice since you were six, you can certainly
spend a tiny fraction of that time making the real stuff.

EGGNOG (adapted from Betty Crocker)

6 eggs
1 cup sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup golden rum (bourbon, or another of your favorite
liquors will do)*
1 quart light cream (half and half if you’re worried
about the Santa effect)
Nutmeg (be generous)

Beat eggs until light and foamy. Add sugar and salt,
beat until thick and lemon colored. Stir in rum and
cream. Chill at least 3 hours (or as long as you can
wait.) Just before serving, sprinkle with nutmeg.
Yield: 12 servings, about ½ cup each.

Oh yeah: Happy Holidays!
