Night Train

Mix with ice in a shaker and strain into a cocktail glass, or combine ingredients, stir and serve on the rocks.

Like a relaxing ride on the rails in the dead of night, this clear, soothing potion will take the commotion out of your locomotion. out of your locomotion. But watch out for to take the local and sip slowly during watch out fora surprise around the bend. You may want to take the local and sip slowly during this pleasurable excursion or you could end up on your cabboose.

WooWoo

1½ oz. vodka

1 oz. peach schnapps

1 to 4 oz. cranberry juice

Mix with ice in a shaker and strain into a highball glass, or combine ingredients, stir, and serve on the rocks. So what’s the second woo for anyway? Maybe it’s in case the bartender doesn’t hear you the first time. And saying it twice means you have to weally, weally want it.

Ordering a double doesn’t make it a woo woo woo woo but may be a good idea if you’re out with your honey pitching you-know-what.

Use Your Noggin

Forget that artificial carton-flavored, store-bought swill disguised as a holiday beverage.

If you can spend days tracking down a useless gift for Aunt Matilda, whom you’ve seen twice since you were six, you can certainly spend a tiny fraction of that time making the real stuff.

EGGNOG (adapted from Betty Crocker)

6 eggs

1 cup sugar

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup golden rum (bourbon, or another of your favorite

liquors will do)*

1 quart light cream (half and half if you’re worried about the Santa effect)

Nutmeg (be generous)

Beat eggs until light and foamy. Add sugar and salt, beat until thick and lemon colored. Stir in rum and cream. Chill at least 3 hours (or as long as you can wait.) Just before serving, sprinkle with nutmeg.

Yield: 12 servings, about ½ cup each.

*To avoid any risk of getting crocked, you may have to skip this ingredient.

Oh yeah: Happy Holidays!
